Genesis 14:18-20

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all. (Genesis 14:18-20 NKJV)

Melchizedek means King of Righteousness. Some people think he is Jesus since He is both a king and priest, because of the meaning of the name and the mention that he is the king of Salem, which means peace. Some people think that Salem is the old name for Jerusalem and this is their king, and at this time, they followed The Lord. I don't know for sure, but what we can learn from the passage is that Melchizedek had a relationship with God and blessed on His behalf and accepted a tithe on His behalf. Hebrews 7 talks about how Melchizedek proves that there is a priesthood higher than the levitical priesthood. If it is Jesus, then He blessed Abram after his victory. If it isn't Jesus, Abram was still blessed through this man by God. What really is important is the relationship. Do you have one?
